Bandom Cheat Sheet

Last Updated: May 16th, 2008

For my reference mostly. I've got band pictures, who's who, who plays what, pairing trends that I'm aware of, official sites and primer/picspam posts. This is not an exhaustive/definitive post. It's what I know about who I want to know about. I'll be adding more info to this post

PS: LARGE PICTURES (though only one for each band)

The Big Three: Fall Out Boy, My Chemical Romance, Panic At The Disco )

The Two That Go Great With Everyone: Cobra Starship and The Academy Is... )

Three More: The Hush Sound, Empires, The Cab )

Two I'd Like To See More Of: 30 Seconds To Mars and The Bravery )

Communities You Need To Join:
bandom_primers - Just what it says. For bands and individuals and more. Not the only place for primers, but a good start.
bandfandom_ref - Got a question? Either it's been answered here, someone here can tell you, or it isn't known. Seriously.
bandom_recs - Each day of the month brings a new themed Rec for bandom. Really good.
bandom_ships - For all your OTP, OT3, GSF needs.

Or, you could just go here:

Oooh, shiney!

Sure, you could use this interface to do all sorts of important things with like DNA or complex scientific whatevers. But me? I'd totally use this to reorganize my iTunes library. Holy christ is that shit out of control and it would be SO much easier to fix if I could just move the files around by hand.

So....SPN

my very brief thoughts )

Well, then...

Guess I don't have to decide whether or not to continue watching My Own Worst Enemy. (NBC Axes Worst Enemy)

That right there is why people aren't watching television as much anymore. What's the point of investing in a show when you aren't given a chance to get involved before the network decides to axe the program?

My Own Worst Enemy had potential. Sure I thought Henry was a whiney fucking tool, but the potential was still there. But NBC pulled the plug. Knight Rider, however, gets a second chance despite abysmal ratings. *sigh*

Not too good to be true

Yes, Dems have the Legislative and the Executive but the homophobia and misogyny are still strong in this country. But for the first time in 8 fucking years I think there's an actual chance that we might be able to start fighting those again instead of cowering in fear.

Yes, we fucking well can.

I voted

It was pretty painless. We have scantron-type ballots: fill in the bubble. There was no line. Dallas County (where I live) appears to have gone to Obama. That is a pretty big relief and kinda shocking.

I tried to look stuff up over on CNN.com, but the damn site (their flash applet) kept crashing my browser. So I went over to MSNBC.

I also bought some tunes: Fall Out Boy - I Don't Care (Cobra Starship Suave Suarez Remix) (album on Amazon), Reggie and the Full Effect - J (that's the one that Frank Iero appeared in the video for) (album on Amazon). and the entire We The Kings album -- it was DRM-free!! (album on Amazon).

Mom's watching Indecision 2008 on Comedy Central. I've got my headphones in and will glance over and read captions as my mood permits.

FanHistory bullshit, again

I have recently learnt that Fandom History is launching a Live Journal Bot. It's purpose is to help Fan History create a better directory of members of fandom, improve articles about LiveJournal users and members of fandom. It creates articles about members of fandom on LiveJournal if the LiveJournal user has decided not to exclude bots from accessing their profiles and where an article with the same name has not already been created on Fan History.

The Bot will create a list of fandom people based on membership of over 1,000 Live Journal fandom communities. The Bot will honour your viewing options, i.e. if you have 'Minimize your journal's inclusion in search engine results. Selecting this option also means that your entries will not be publicized at external sites that have content partnership with LiveJournal' ticked, the Bot will not include you in Fandom History. However, that also means that whilst you might actually like having your journal show up in Google and other similar search engines, etc., in order for your journal not to be included on Fandom History, you do have to have this option ticked. Unfortunately, you can't have it both ways.

Creepifying

Every time I see a commercial for this:
ExtenZe

It makes me think of the movie eXistenZ, and specifically of that skeleton gun thing, see:
eXistenZ

And frankly, that's just nasty.

It was a good movie though.

I Don't Care video!

on the US iTunes store is a product placement bonanza

Original Entry - now deleted

this will probably end up deleted either by me or someone else but the version of the video that we worked on night after night is not the version that aired. yet somehow a cut full of glorious camera phone shots did. just to let you know. it doesnt make any sense to us. that bag of money is being donated straight to a cause far more worthy.

imagine seeing this edit only after you buy the video off of i-tunes and realizing that noone even had the balls to call you and tell you they were changing the video and cutting parts.

id recommend viewing the video on a site that it doesnt cost you any money as this is NOT the edit the band approved.

sorry to let you down.

But now it's just this

So...I'm not sure what I'm going to do. I had to wait to buy because I needed to be sure of my funding situation.

It's up on YouTube, of course:

The Palin Kids Name Meme

Snagged from [info]ausmac:

Sarah Palin married her high school boyfriend, Todd Palin, on August 29, 1988. The Palin family lives in Wasilla, about 45 miles (72 km) north of Anchorage. The Palins have two sons (Track, 19, and Trig, four months) and three daughters (Bristol, 17; Willow, 14; and Piper, 7) [ages as of August 2008]. Todd Palin has said Track's name came from the interest Sarah's parents had in the sport and the fact that he was born in the sport's season; Bristol was named after Bristol Bay in Alaska, where Todd grew up and where he does commercial fishing; Willow was named after Willow, Alaska; Piper got her name because it is uncommon and "a cool name"; Trig's name is Norse for "strength".

1)Your first-born will be named after your parents favorite sport:

Rodeo
My mom's fave sport is bull riding. And I can't think of anything else I could use.

2)Your second-born will be named after a nearby area that you're not from but you like the sound of part of the name, and maybe you have nostalgic memories of said place:

Boulder
The city in Colorado. It's not near me now but it was when I was growing up and I have many good memories of the city. Going to the shops and hanging out with my mom and sisters.

3)Your third-born will be named after another nearby place, for no reason other than you already have two children and don't have time to put much thought into another name:

Aurora
It's a suburb of Denver, plus it's Sleeping Beauty's real name!

4)Your fourth gets a "cool" name:

Knol
What? Google thinks it's cool.

5)Your fifth gets something mythological, possibly straight out of Lord of the Rings:

Ereshkigal
Every family should have at least one destroyer of worlds.

New Season: Supernatural (and Burn Notice finale)

First, Burn Notice finale. Wait, what? )

And now, Supernatural. I have to say, I have been worried about what we'd see this season. Last season was so...not great. So I went into viewing the premier with no small amount of caution. )

aha! (not the band)

I figured out why I have trouble formulating feedback to bandboys, well a big part of why anyway:

I have no proper frame of reference for boys. They're weird* and it's like, I think I get them...and we're going along apparently on the same page and then all of a sudden they're three counties over in a different fucking library *beats metaphor to death*

I don't know why it didn't occur to me before except that I'm awesome at missing the obvious about myself. But it wasn't until I was easily, with no angst, replying to a blog post by Charlotte (of Charlotte Sometimes) that this hit me. I just jotted off a reply and hit post with no more stress than I would have replying to a fellow fan. It's embarrassing when I'm stupid like that.

*Disclaimer: This is very, very off-the-cuff and not a deep and considered observation. Generalizations are made not because I'm an insensitive jerk, but because this has only just occurred to me and I'll need some time to get beyond this surface level realization.

And yes, I am avoiding looking at LJ/IJ/JF because I don't watch SPN until Pacific time.
